Apre-treatment plant for removing the salt content from brackish raw water has been started up recently in the City of Melilla (a Spanish territory in North Africa). This plant improves the quality of the drinking-water treatment station that services the city, which, until the pre-treatment plant went in operation, produced water with a high salt content.

A new seawater desalination plant has been in operation in the City of Melilla (Spanish outpost in North Africa) since February, 2007. The facility produces 20,000 m3/day of desalinated water, which meets the needs of a great part of the city’s population. It is designed to accommodate an enlargement to be built at a future date, which will raise production to 27,000 m3/day.

The new San Pedro del Pinatar Wastewater Treatment Station, in Murcia, Southeastern Spain, is soon to go into operation. This plant was designed and built to replace the old wastewater treatment plant at this same location, built in the 1990’s, the treatment capacity of which is insufficient, especially during the summer months when the population is at its maximum. The old plant has other functional deficiencies as well.
